What is the Heritage Club

The Heritage Club provides an opportunity to establish a legacy gift with the goal of investing in the long term future of Sacramento State Athletics.

These endowments allow a donor to establish a continuous stream of support for a specific need or program. Each year, distributions from these endowed funds are used for a specific purpose, as defined by the donor. Endowments can provide support for scholarships, facilities, teams, academics or any area where a donor has a passion.

How to Become a Member

First, elect a cause where you have a passion to leave a legacy. Then decide how you want to fund your legacy:

One Time Funding (minimum of $25,000)
Multiyear Commitment (minimum of $5000 per year for five (5) years)
Planned Gift: Use planned gift vehicles like charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, bequests, life insurance policies, IRA required minimum distributions and other tax-wise tools.

A listing on Hornetsports.com, the official website of Hornet Athletics
Special Invitations to Sac State Athletics' Events

Scholarship awards will benefit student-athletes. One or more awards annually at minimum amount of $500. 2.3 Overall GPA. Any Major Class level eligible Senior.
Note – Senior Student must be in his/her 5th year of college enrollment and has exhausted his/her athletic eligibility of suffered career-ending injury.
First preference should be given to student-athlete who have been members of the Sacramento State Hornets Men’s Basketball team, as long as the Athletic Department can make such an award and stay in compliance with the broader requirements of both Title IX and Proposition 209.

Scholarship awards to student athletes in the Athletics Department at Sacramento State. This award was created in honor and memory of Coach Bob Mattos. One or more awards annually, minimum level from $500 up to cost of annual tuition and fees depending on balance. 2.3 Overall GPA. Any Major. No financial aid requirements. Class level eligible Senior Senior Class.
Level: Student must be in his/her 5th year of college enrollment and has exhausted his/her athletic eligibility, or suffered career-ending injury. First preference should be given to student-athlete who have been members of the Sacramento State Hornets Football team.

To honor the memory of Brian Satchwell, who lost his life to cancer at the age of 24 and who was very involved with, and loved, tennis – and whose wish was to be able to play tennis for Rich Andrews on the CSUS Tennis Team. Two awards of $200 each year.
Eligibility: Tennis players considered for the award must characterize the inspiration, high goals and love of tennis exemplified by Brian Satchwell. Financial need does not need to be considered. Recipients may be of any class level. No discrimination shall be made on the basis of sex or ethnicity.
Administration: The CSUS tennis coach will each year select one player the men’s tennis team and one woman on the women’s tennis team who show the most inspiration and reflect the ideals of Brian Satchwell.
Scholarship awards to student athletes in the Athletics Department at Sacramento State. This award was established by Dan and Sarita Turner.
One or more awards annually, minimum level from $500 up to cost of annual tuition and fees depending on balance. 2.3 Overall GPA. Any Major.
Class level eligible: 5th Year Senior Enrolled, no minimum requirements at time of award and at time of application.
Senior Class Level: Student must be in his/her 5th year of college enrollment and has exhausted his/her athletic eligibility, or suffered career-ending injury.

The Don and Ronee Mashburn Endowment Fund, created in 2022 through the generous donation of Don Mashburn, in memory of his late wife Ronee who passed in March of 2021. Don and Ronee have been pillars in the Sacramento softball community.
In 1985, they founded the California Breeze Softball Organization, which has provided a superior platform of coaching and mentoring in order to help countless young women achieve their goals of playing collegiate softball. The goal of this endowment is to continue the tradition of supporting softball players and the Sacramento State softball team for years to come. This endowment will be used to offset costs for team needs such as food, travel, equipment, apparel, and facilities.

Scholarship awards to male or female students who are current members of the Men’s or Women’s Intercollegiate Golf teams.
$500 minimum or up to the cost of annual tuition and fees.
3.0 Overall GPA. Any Major. No financial aid requirements.
Class levels eligible: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate’s that are classified.

This scholarship was created to honor Mr. Gilbert Garcia, a former football player here at Sacramento State. Annually at a desired minimum award of $500. No financial need requirements. 2.0 Overall GPA. Any Major Class levels of Sophomore, Junior, Senior; student must be a current member of the Sacramento State Football team at the time of award.

Scholarship awards to students to honor the memory of former boxing coach Henry “Hank” Elespuru. Minimum award based on available funds/maximum award up to full amount of in-state tuition and fees. 2.0 Overall GPA, 2.5 GPA in Senior year and pass a minimum of 12 credits in first semester prior to receiving scholarship for second semester, 5th year senior with commitment to coaching. Applications must be submitted by coaches; final two will go to the committee. Previous financial aid for minimum of 2 years prior Head coach recommendation. Applied for graduation. Exhausted all eligibility or career ending injury, been in good scholastic standing the previous year. Recipient will be required to repay the scholarship funds if courses are dropped or failed, priority consideration to student achieving an overall Sac State GPA of 2.7.

To provide financial assistance to students interested in the field of athletic training. Minimum award amount is based on available funds.
Applicants must: Be enrolled full-time at the time of application or when the award is received. Be in a program pursuing a degree in athletic training in the Physical Education Department at Sacramento State.

The Ida and George Malkovsky Football Endowment was created in honor of Ida and George Malkovsky. The endowment is intended to support the priority needs of the Football program, including but not limited to such activities as recruiting, scholarships, and coaches’ professional development.

Scholarship awards to student-athletes in the Athletics Department of Sacramento State. This awards was established by Jack and Kathy Ford.
First preference should be given to student-athletes who have been members of the Sacramento State Hornets Men’s Basketball Team, as long as the Athletics Department can make such award and stay in compliance with the broader requirements of both Title IX and Proposition 209.

Scholarship awarded to students, in honor of KC Patterson, a former Football player here at Sacramento State. The scholarship is intended to support students in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Awarded annually at the desired minimum award of $500. 2.0 overall GPA, Sophomore, Junior or Senior. Any major. Must be a member of the Sacramento State Football team. No financial aid requirement.

Scholarship was created in honor of Ms. Lauren C. Patterson. The scholarship is intended to support student-athlete(s) in the sport of Women’s Golf in the Department of Collegiate Athletics at Sacramento State. One award annually with a minimum of $500. 2.5 overall GPA, Freshman – Senior. Any Major. Must be a member of the Sacramento State Women’s Golf team. No financial aid requirement.
Renewable: Student recipients may receive the scholarship up to 4 years as allowed by the specifications, so long as the student remains eligible as defined by the criteria.

Scholarship awards to students to honor Rudy Minnick’s compassion for others, love of sports and recreation activities, and commitment to education. Up to full amount of in state fees. 2.0 Overall GPA. Kinesiology or Health Science Major preferred. No financial aid requirements.
Class level: eligible Senior Students must meet eligibility requirements for 5th year athletic grants, with preference for student coaches or for students who have shown a commitment to coaching. Preference may also be given to former members of the Baseball Team or students who are Kinesiology and Health Science majors.
Financial need may be considered if all other criteria are equal. No discrimination shall be made on the basis of sex and ethnicity. In the event that NCAA funding is not available for Division I team participants, the award may be given to a member of the Sacramento State Baseball Team, with a preference for a Kinesiology and Health Science major.

This scholarship was created in honor of Reverend Rick Bergstrom, a member of the graduating class of 1974 Football student-athlete, $1500, 3.0 Overall GPA. Any Major. Senior Students are eligible to re-apply and financial aid is not required.

The Dr. Ronald and Deborah Sockolov Endowment is intended to recognize the lifetime support that Ronald and Phyllis Sockolov provided to the Sockolov family. Scholarship awards are to support the student-athlete scholarships for athletes participating in the sport of Football.
Awarded annually at minimum level of $500 or more depending on funds. 2.0 Overall GPA. Any Major. Current/recent member of the Sacramento State Football team at the time of the award as determined Athletics Enrolled in Summer school, or full-time enrollment during the regular school year.
Eligible class levels: Summer School 5th year student athlete.

Scholarship awarded to students pursuing a degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training. Flexible depending on funds available. 2.8 Overall GPA.
Major: Kinesiology/Athletic Training.
Class level eligible: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior.
Full time at time of award. Scholarship to be awarded annually to Sacramento State student enrolled in the Kinesiology/Athletic Training degree option.
First preference is for qualified students with financial need; if no qualified applicants have financial need, then scholarship is to be awarded to most qualified.

Scholarship will benefit student-athletes in honor of Marshall Sperbeck, the Head Football Coach at Sacramento State from 2007-2013. One or more awards annually with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of annual tuition and fees. 2.3 overall GPA. Student must be in his/her 5th year of college enrollment and has exhausted his/her athletics eligibility or suffered a career-ending injury. First preference should be given to student-athletes who have been a member of the Sacramento State Hornets Football team, as long as the Athletics Department can make such award and stay in compliance with the broader requirements of both Title IX and Proposition 209.
